When You Write a Topic
When writing or updating a topic, include the string
XYZZY (upper or lower case) in the text wherever something needs to be filled in or you're not sure of your information.
For example:
- Torque the veeblefleetzer bolt to XYZZY ft-lbs.
- The alternator can supply up to a million watts. (XYZZY - Is that right?)
See below for an explanation of what the string
XYZZY means.
What Does XYZZY Mean?
Xyzzy is a made-up word that has its origins in the game
Adventure developed by Crowther and Woods in computing's early days. It has since gained traction as, among other things, a placeholder for missing information. A full explanation by the author of
Colossal Cave Adventure, a later version of the same game, is available at
http://www.rickadams.org/adventure/c_xyzzy.html.
