Valve Check Kit

For Inspection

Feeler Gauges - Must cover 0.13-0.19mm (0.005-0.007 in) and 0.22-0.28mm (0.009-0.011 in).
  • Suggested: Craftsman 40802, KD Tools KDS2424 (Both available from Sears)
  • IDEA! Many feeler gauge sets do not go any smaller than 0.005 in. It is good to have a 0.004 in gauge to verify that a valve at 0.005 in is actually within spec. A piece of feeler gauge stock is a suitable substitute. (McMaster-Carr part number for a single 12" length is 19875A35.)

For Adjustment

Cam Tensioner Release Tool
  • Suggested: Honda part number 07ZMG-MCAA400
  • Alternate: Home-made version described below:
    cam-tool.png
  • IDEA! A small screwdriver can be used for this purpose, but the cam tensioner will not lock in the released position, requiring it be held that way.

Shim Kit - 7.48mm diameter shims ranging in thickness from 1.20 mm to 2.90 mm. Honda's shims are in 0.025 mm increments.
  • Suggested: Hot Cams model HCSHIM01. Covers 1.20 to 3.50 mm in 0.05 mm increments. This is sufficient to bring an out-of-spec valve back into spec.

Micrometer - Millimeters or inches, flat anvil, must cover 1.20-2.90 mm (0.047-0.115 in)
  • Suggested: Sears has several available at different price points. An inexpensive model is fine.
  • IDEA! Since most feeler gauge sets are in even increments of inches, it is easier to take all measurements and do all calculations in inches and then convert to metric to find the new shim size.

Cam Retainer Sealing Washers - Required for 1300 only.
  • Suggested: Honda part number 90463-ML7-000, Qty. 8 (4 per side)
